When we were in Nashville this November we had the opportunity to visit a plantation near Franklin, TN. Carnton Plantation House was surrounded by soldiers on November 30th, 1863, the day of the battle of Franklin during the Civil War. The house was used as a hospital during and after the battle and over 700 wounded were brought to the mansion. When dawn broke the next morning, those left with the aftermath discovered that 10,000 men had lost their lives during the night time battle… The story that we heard during the tour was amazing. Seeing the proof of war when looking at the blood stains on the wood floorbrought life back into perspective. The story of Carnton has inspired me to always cherish the gift of freedom that was granted through God’s principles. All men are created equal… I’ll never forget the men who died to defend that message.
