Update from North Carolina 5.28.16

A lot of you have been asking how Alika is doing in North Carolina, so we thought we’d give you an update¬†with this blog. (Since they never post anything on Facebook, here is an little bit of what has been happening since the new year!)

For those of you who don’t know, Shane works as a mechanical engineer for Integro Technologies in Salisbury, NC. Alika started working for Blair Phillips Photography in December and loves her new job! Blair and his wife, Suzanne, own a high end photography studio and have started a school division of the company as well. Alika works in the school division and coordinates schedules with over 20 high school athletics departments in addition to over 15 additional schools for yearbook and spring pictures. She also processes orders and reorders for the school division and loves being able to meet people from all over the area! When they aren’t working (which according to their very nice neighbors isn’t often) they love working on projects around the house! This includes building a two person lounger, painting the foundation of their house a nice gray color instead of light pink, replacing the outdoor lighting, adding cabinets and shelves to the laundry room, restaining the furniture Grandpa Otte made for Alika, painting the fireplace that came from the house in Kansas and adding it to the music room etc…. Brooke Warner also created an amazing landscape design which will be implemented in the fall!

Recently, Shane and Alika took a weekend trip to Savannah, GA and loved learning about all of the history in the city! (At least Alika did, Shane walked to every single one of the 20 historic city squares and read every single one of the monumental plaques with her. He says his feet are still hurting…) They also took a ride on a bus tour which highlighted even more of the city’s history and beauty! If you’ve never been to Savannah, there are mansions everywhere with Live Oak trees draped in Spanish Moss running down the middle of every street which creates a canopy of gorgeous shade, perfect for taking romantic strolls! If however you are wanting wide open spaces, all you have to do is drive a few minutes down the road to Tybee Island and the beach! Fort Pulaski is a resolute resident of Tybee, so just in case you didn’t get enough history while you were walking around Savannah, you can get your fill of Civil War battle drama with the firing of the cannons! It was really amazing to watch and definitely worth the visit!
