Sight Seeing in Seattle 8.16.11

On Tuesday morning we boarded the ferry and set out for the city of Seattle. When we arrived at the Pier we walked into the heart of downtown and hit Pikes Place Market which was a whole little world in and of itself. We tried smoked Salmon (which almost made up for the fact that we haven’t had steak or ribs for 10 days, we Kansas girls are missing our beef…) and gAutumn Janika Lainika Danika Alika from top of Space Needleot to see the famous fish market where they through fish. It smelled amazing… We tried fresh mini donuts and sampled several different olive oils and even tried chocolate pasta! They had the most gorgeous flower bouquets for only 5 and 10 dollars!!! Pikes Place Market is also home to the very first Starbucks. In our tour of the city we discovered that there is a Starbucks on literally every corner downtown. One of the things we HAD to do was find some authentic seafood for lunch so we headed over to the Pier 54 and the historic Ivar’s waterfront restaurant. Our final stop in Seattle was, of course, the Space Needle. The view from the top was extravagant and the gorgeous weather gave us a rare view of Mt. Rainier. By the end of the day we were exhausted (we walked everywhere and let’s just say we don’t get any practice on mountain climbing in Kansas. I’ve never seen so many stairs and ups and downs within a ten mile radius!) All it all it was a fantastic day and on the ferry ride home the day was topped off by catching sight of jellyfish and sea lions!
