On our way to Portland, OR where we’re singing this weekend we decided to stop by Mt Saint Helens. We stopped at the visitors center and watched footage of what went on in Washington on May 18, 1980. The video was shockingly interesting and tragic at the same time. In the visitors center they also had several artifacts and pictures (our favorites were the before and after). Our grandpa told us that when the volcano erupted there was fine dust on all the cars… ash. Our aunt and uncle were living in Sunnyside, WA and had over an inch of ash covering everything in sight. After touring the visitor center and buying postcards we decided to forgo the extra hour and a half of driving that would give us a closer view of the volcano in favor of finding food. The fog (or maybe it was ash) was kinda blocking a clear view of the mountain anyway so we snapped a picture and headed on down the road.
